‘Bean me Up’ has a French-Canadian coffeeshop owner, and the main character has made it his go-to place for a newsstory that isn’t working out very well. When he’s invited to the back, it’s not exactly what he expected. It turns out he’s one of the last mages in the US. And some secretive organization is inducting him in magic. That and beautiful companions who teach him a lot more than how to use his magical powers. Dante King’s “Aether Mage” is a good start to a series.
